Riding the wave of ministry: reflections on Momentum SCD2018

It’s been several years since I attended the School of Congregational Development and I still think it is one of the most worthwhile United Methodist conferences I have been to. This year we gathered in San Diego, California and building on the imagery of waves and surfing, the 2018 theme was “Momentum.” I am so in love with the United Methodist connection. This year’s school was one of the most diverse in terms of ethnicity and age. It was great to bump into and catch up with long time friends…See More

Town and Country Resort is a Great Site for SCD 2018

As we plan the School of Congregational Development, we look for a location that makes it easy for people to participate in the school.  We look for easy access to the airport, restaurants, and the sessions.  The Town and Country Resort meets all those criteria. The main plenary room and the breakout rooms are within walking distance of all the newly refurbished sleepings rooms.

The resort sits right next to the Fashion Valley Shopping Center which is a half-mile walk to its restaurants and shops.

Right between the resort and the mall, is the Fashion Valley Transit Center where you can take the San Diego Trolley to a variety of places in the San Diego area. You can go to Old Town, Downtown (where the Padres play) and Seaport Village.

From the airport you can catch Uber, Lift, or even a Taxi for the 20 minutes ride to the resort.

So to get around San Diego, you will not need to rent a car.  Using public transportation is easy to do.

Friday night's schedule is free and we finish at 12 noon on Saturday so that is your times to explore the city.  If you are a baseball fan, the Padres are in town and will be playing the Diamondbacks.  You can take the trolley to the game from the resort.

If you are planning on arriving early or staying longer, the event rates are available three days before and three days after the school which meets from Wednesday, August 15th to Saturday, August 18th, 2018.
